Music Bio

Broc Hite is native to the Mid-Hudson River Valley of New York State.  He started playing the piano at age 9, and became weekly organist at a small United Methodist Church at age 15.  He spent his first two undergraduate years at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he studied piano with Veronica Jochum and piano pedagogy with Jean Stackhouse. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Piano Performance from Purchase College in Purchase, New York, studying under German Diez, chamber music with Yehudi Wyner, and organ with Robert Fertitta. For two years following his graduation from Purchase, he taught piano at the Rockland Conservatory of Music, a nationally-affiliated Community Music School and a partner of Rockland Community College, in Rockland County, New York.

He continued his studies with a Master of Music in Piano Accompanying from The Juilliard School in New York City, studying with Marshall Williamson and Margo Garrett, and taking part in classes with Samuel Sanders and Jonathan Feldman. While at Juilliard, he performed with instrumental and vocal majors and collaborated with members of the Juilliard Opera Center.  He performed several times on classical music stations WNCN, now a hard-rock station, and WQXR, then the classical radio station of the New York Times and now an NPR affiliate.

He taught piano and accompanied ballet classes at the Connecticut Conservatory of Dance and Music in New Milford, Connecticut. He also taught piano students during his tenure as music director at the United Methodist Church in Danbury, Connecticut, from 1993 to 2003.

During the mid to late 1990s, he accompanied and performed regularly with the Danbury, (Connecticut) Concert Chorus, including accompanying major choral works on piano and organ by Haydn, Berlioz, Fauré, and Rutter. In 2004, he became Organist and Music Director at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Fairfield, Connecticut. He founded the Choral Scholars program, which attracted some of the area’s finest high school students to participate as section leaders in the choir and to develop their talents in singing, musicianship, and conducting. He left the church in 2010 as the result of a corporate relocation from Connecticut to Arkansas.

Mr. Hite is currently Organist and Associate Director of Music at Bella Vista First United Methodist Church, a position he began in the spring of 2012.  He is the administrator of the Wesley Series, a successful and long-running series at the church, which invites a variety of musicians to perform and the occasional theologian to speak with 6 to 8 events per year.  More info can be found at Wesley Series.
